The primary function of a teaching assistant (Support Practitioner) is to support teachers in the classrooms and to meet the individual needs of all learners. We normally refer to our teaching assistants as the specialist in the classroom .
With so many changes to education reform, the need for teaching assistants to be fully knowledgeable and to have specialized skills to deal with learners, have grown by more than 100%. Annual census figures show that there are about 220,000 more full time teacher and teaching assistants in schools as compared to 2005.
