The NCFE Level 3, Certificate in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate is aimed at any individual seeking to enter the teaching profession as a support practitioner in the classroom. This training is suitable for all roles in schools especially for working with learners with special needs and disabilities.
The primary function of a teaching assistant (Support Practitioner) is to support teachers in the classrooms and to meet the individual needs of all learners. We normally refer to our teaching assistants as the specialist in the classroom .
With so many changes to education reform, the need for teaching assistants to be fully knowledgeable and to have specialized skills to deal with learners, have grown by more than 100%. Annual census figures show that there are about 220,000 more full time teacher and teaching assistants in schools as compared to 2005.

80 hours of supervised work placement

Work placement of a minimum of 80 hours is mandatory and guaranteed. This means that unlike most centres, our trainees do not have to get their own placement. SCCD takes the responsibility to ensure that all trainees are placed in a viable and reputable school
