Which license is better for teaching QTS or QTLS? This is still a very hot topic in the education sector, especially within people who are looking to get into teaching. Surprisingly, a lot of people are not even aware of the QTLS license.

So what exactly is QTLS? We have lined out 10 things you probably did not know about the license.

  1. In 2012, the government legislated that holders of QTLS can now teach in primary and secondary schools as well as be treated the same in pay and benefits as are the holders of QTS
Pursuing the QTLS route is more affordable and flexible than pursuing the QTS route.
  2. The route to QTLS is a much more supported route, and geared more towards success than failure.
  3. Allows you to hold 2 licenses in 1 – QTLS holders are acknowledged as being able to teach academic and also vocational subjects, which means it allows teaching in primary, secondary, colleges and adult institutions.
  4. The QTLS route is more friendly towards overseas teachers and adults who may not be able to take time off from work to go to the university for PGCE.
  5. The journey to become a qualified teacher is a lot shorter and more guaranteed than the PGCE route.
  6. The QTLS is very accommodating to people seeking career changes because of the transferable skills you can bring to the table as well as adapting to the changing times and curriculums.
  7. The QTLS provides you the versatility to be employed in different sectors as opposed to QTS which might be either the primary QTS or secondary QTS.
  8. It is cost-effective and suited to people already on minimum wages as opposed to most university route programmes.
  9. QTLS provides the same benefits as QTS – salary, pension, continued professional development and professional recognition, all are the same.
