What does this qualification cover?
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Teaching (DET) is a popular route for prospective teachers who want to pursue a non-university route into becoming a fully recognized teacher.
Suitable for individuals who are already practicing within the education sector, or those who are not currently practicing but have a significant amount of experience and now wish to consolidate that with a formal qualification.
Through this course, students will gain the experience and knowledge required to meet the necessary criteria through a combination of theoretical study – once a week sessions, and practical activity through placement.
This training prepares students to teach in a wide range of contexts. On successful completion of this course, students will be able to plan and implement schemes of work, develop teaching and learning strategies, and teach effectively in public and private schools, colleges and universities in many countries all over the world.
SCCD has also partnered with education recruitment agencies to help students find their perfect job within the teaching sector.
The course is a 120-credit qualification, and is accredited by Pearson awarding body.
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) leading to full teacher qualified status (QTLS) is recognized as being same as the QTS
The Level 5 Diploma programme typically last one year.
You can apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status once you’ve successfully completed your training.
The QTLS is equivalent to QTS (Qualified Teacher Status in England, allowing you to work as a qualified teacher in state schools.
QTLS provides 2 licenses in 1. Enables to teach in primary, secondary, and further education.
Applying for Fully-Qualified Status
You must have achieved the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply for QTLS.
A minimum of 100 hours of teaching experience. SCCD will provide you with placement at a school near to you.
Level 2 English or mathematics OR Level 3 if you are taking units in teaching literacy or numeracy.

How will I learn?
We offer a blended training that will typically consist of active learning in a classroom environment as well as remote learning with online webinars. You will also have access to guest speakers who will share their expertise around safeguarding, using technology in the classroom and managing classroom behavior. You will also learn on the job through your teaching practice and reflecting on your practice.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete a variety of assessments including group presentations, written tasks and recorded discussions. At the end of the year you will present a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates that you have met the assessment criteria of the taught units. You will also undergo 8 one hour observations of your teaching practice.
